【About
Ryan & Jenny and this Event】
All the
lindyhoppers know that Ryan and Jenny are the best Lindy Hop dancers on this
planet today. They starred in the Broadway Musical Swing! as well
as contributed most of the choreography. They have appeared at the Tony
Awards, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Rosie
O’Donnell Show and with Wynton Marsalis
and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Ryan is the director,
choreographer and founder of the Authentic Jazz Dance Company Zoots &Spangles, formed in 1987
and funded by the British Arts Council. His extensive list of
credits includes numerous appearances in TV, film
and theater, and tours in several dance productions in Europe.
He danced in the movies Malcolm X and Stomping at
the Savoy. Ryan also choreographed for the movie Swing Kids and A
Man for All Seasons, a Dudley Moore tribute at Carnegie Hall.
Jenny also has an extensive list
of dancing and choreography credits, including appearances
in TV and theater. She began as a tap dancer at the age of 4 and
won the All England Tap Championships for 3 consecutive
years. Stage credits include the London cast
of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song and Dance as well as other West End musicals. Early in their collaboration, Ryan
and Jenny formed their own act, Over The Top which included
Lindy Hop, Jazz, Tap and song. In 1997 they won the Lindy Division of
the American Swing Dance Championships and the U.S. Open.
They can be seem as dancing elves in The Polar Express, were
performers on the huge TV hit Dancing With The Stars, and
Ryan was a featured dancer in the motion picture release Idlewild. These days they can often be found on
the set of the BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing or
working with Ryan’s dynamic fusion dance company Swing X-Treme.
Their latest appearance is So You Think You Can Dance where Ryan choreographed
and taught the couple with Jenny.

were invited to Tokyo
in 2002 for the first time by Tokyo Swing Dance Society. This time in this
event in 2011, it is their second visit to Tokyo.
You know, it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. The swing is Ryan and Jenny.

the areas of Tohoku and Tokyo,
Japan.
Although we are miles away from
this terrible tragedy that you are living through right now, and can not
possibly understand how tough it must be for the people of Japan to survive
such wide scale devastation, please know that the entire world is watching
and feeling your plight and can only marvel at your strength and courage in
the face of such a powerful act of god.
At times such as
these it is important to know that you have many people who care about you
and your well being, we are at your service for as long as you need our help,
our support, and our prayers.
We know the Japanese
to be a very strong, resourceful and proud nation, because of these facts we
know you will survive the aftermath of the earthquake, tsunami and the
nuclear explosions and anything else mother nature throws in your path. You will emerge a stronger and a

Swing dance nights are regularly held at Tokyo Salon, a premium
night club in Tokyo,
every other Wednesday. As a
kick-off of R&J Swing Ichiban Tokyo 2011, its first dance class of the
workshops and DJ’ed welcome swing dance night take place at both of Tokyo
Salon and Kyozon, a wooden floor’s room. Not just only drinks, the club
is a nice restaurant as well.

This night must be a highlight of
this event. The venue is
located in the center of Tokyo
and the building is big, safe, new, clean, air-conditioned well and strong.
The ballroom has

this planet, the best swing band in Tokyo

Awards for a woman and a man respectively at the ball plus the venue is a wonderful
place, it must be a good chance for you to be looked smart and to take a
lot of your photos.

You can take optional privates from Ryan and/or Jenny in Tokyo this time. In order to take this advantage, you
need to buy the RJ-package to begin with. It is 55 minuets per class.
You will learn Ryan and Jenny’s leading and following philosophy in
detail and the intricacies that you'll never fully get in a class
situation. Every individual requires something different, as no two people
are the same. You should not

エアリアル（空中技）は、たとえどのような種類の物でも捻挫や骨折、さらには後遺症や命にかかわる場合すらあります。不特定多数の集まるダンスフロアーでは絶対に行わないでください。R&Jは世界一のエアリアルを行うプロダンサーである一方、危険性も熟知しているため、ソーシャルフロアーではそれを一切行いません。エアリアルは、その人の一生に責任を持てる特定のパートナーとともに、正しく十分な量のトレーニングを積んだリスクを取ることができる専門のダンサーが、テレビや映画、舞台などで特別に仕事として行うものであって、一般のダンサーがソーシャルフロアーで行うものではありません。特に女性は怪我を受けやすい立場になりますので、仮にダンスパートナーがエアリアルを行おうとした場合は、その場でダンスを止め明確に拒絶してください。自分の身は自分で守る、これが基本です。

an item of the event.
R&J SWING ICHIBAN TOKYO 2011オリジナルの高級日本てぬぐいです。1枚1,500円でイベント会場で販売されます。RJパックをご購入の方はその中に1枚含まれています。中央の猫がスウィングダンスをしている絵のオリジナルは、人気イラストレーターのソリマチアキラさんにTSDSとそのイベントのロゴとして制作していただきました。てぬぐいの制作は日本てぬぐいのトップメーカー、株式会社かまわぬです。ユニオンジャックの青の部分は日本てぬぐいらしさを出すためにきれいな藍色を用いました。てぬぐいとしての通常の利用の他に、R&Jのサインを入れてイベントの記念として額に入れてもいいですし、ダンサーのバンダナとしてもご利用いただけるかと思います。ここに江戸時代と現代の使われ方の番付がイラストとともに掲載されていて興味深いです。

鎌と輪の絵に「ぬ」の文字を合わせて「かまわぬ」と読む判じ絵。 江戸時代元禄の頃、町奴（まちやっこ）達が好んで身につけていたとされ、その後歌舞伎役者の七代目市川団十郎（1791〜1859）が舞台衣装に用いて、当時の庶民の間で大流行したと言われています。
手拭い専門店「かまわぬ」は「特別に何のお構いも出来ませんが 気軽にお立ち寄り下さい」という意味を込めています。
「手拭いを売ること」だけが目的ではなく、手拭いなど古き良きものを新しい感覚で取り入れ提案していきます。
また手拭いや晒を使った和雑貨、遊びのある雑貨を展開し、人々が心地よく楽しい生活をおくるためのお手伝いをしていきたいと考えています。

1998年3月東京に、伝説のリンディホッパー、Frankie Manning氏（1914-2009）を招聘して日本初のリンディホップのワークショップとイベントを開催、ここから日本のリンディホップの歴史が始まった。2000年にはフランキーの８６歳の誕生日を祝うイベントを東京で開催、世界中から多くのダンサーが集合した（英語版Wikipedia）。2002年、Ryan &
Jenny を日本に初招聘。他にもこれまで、チャズ・ヤング（フランキーの息子）、スティーブン＆ヴィルジニー、エリン・スティーブンス（スティーブンとエリンはフランキーを再発見しスウィング界に復帰させた功労者）、シン・リム（ライアンの元ダンスパートナーでスーパーダンサー）などをはじめ、現代の世界のリンディホップ界の重鎮たちを多数招いて、ワークショップとイベントを開催。TSDS顧問には、フランキー・マニング（故）、ライアン・フランソワ、瀬川昌久（日本を代表するジャズ、ミュージカル評論家）、シン・リム、エリン・スティーブンスの各氏をむかえている。TSDSではダンスクラス Swing Sunday を毎週日曜に東京で開催している他、各種スウィングダンスのイベントを企画、開催している。
