DAX HOCK
Winner 2003 US Open Swing Dance Championships Lindy Showcase Division.
2001 "National Jitterbug Championships" Champion.

Dax Hock has been teaching, competing, and performing internationally for
the past six years. He began Lindy Hopping in San Diego, California in 1997,
and has been avidly addicted ever since. His work as a dancer has taken him
away from competitions and events in the US for almost 3 years now but he
has continued studying dance in Japan where he currently works as a
choreographer, instructor and performer. In November 2003, after having
been out of the lindy scene for over 2 years, he was able to make it to the
US OPEN and become the 2003 US OPEN Lindy Showcase Champion. Prior
competition achievements include 1st place at the 2001 ALHC Cabaret for the
unforgettable DOG PILE Routine and 2001 "National Jitterbug Championships"
Jack and Jill Champion. His studies include Lindy Hop, Balboa, Carolina
Shag, Shag, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Salsa, and aerial acrobatics.
Dax's background
Dax Hock began dancing when he was 15 years old in San Diego CA. and began
teaching at the very young age of 16. Dax's love for dance soon spread
across the spectrum as he started studying many forms of dance in order to
enhance his swing. This included classes and recitals in ballet tap and
jazz all the way to hip hop. Lindy Hop opened the doors to opportunities,
he was recruited into a company called Hop Star as a choreographer/trainer.
Dancing for people like Brain Setzer to the President of the United States
and companies from Dean Witter to Ford, he was also a part of the Camel
sponsored nation wide tour with Indigo Swing, In LA Dax was teaching
workshops, privates and classes on a regular basis. After about a year in
LA he was booked as a dancer in Universal Studios in Japan and has been
there as a performer, dancer trainer and choreographer ever since.
Takumi

Takumi is one of Dax's star pupils and favorite follows. She has studied
dance her whole life and for the last 2 years has dedicated her time to
learning swing. Her vibrant dancing and personality has brought life to many
performances with Dax and Mecha Kucha Swing. Takumi will be his teaching
assistant for the Workshop.

Workshop Descriptions
All the workshops will be progressive and the theme will be as follows.

Each class will:
1.Review/ Go over parts of the big apple to study classic swing jazz
movements.
2.Work on footwork and bounce.
3. Progressively cover the principals of connection. Connection to the floor
and connection to your partner. a. Directional connection and steady
movement, b. Rotational connection and fluctuating movement, c. Connection
in turns and how to use the hands and arms and frame for spins and turns, d.
Three dimensional connection and all the "crazy stuff" that a lot of amazing
dancers only seem to understand.

Once the leaders and follows grasp the basic concepts of connection covered
for the day, we start to put the concepts we practiced into Lindy Hop.
The first half on the workshop will focus on connection and one's own dance
ability. The second half will be hopefully filled with lots of dancing using
what we learned in the first half the class. Every workshop will build upon
the last weekends. My goal by the end is for everyone to have more
understanding of the principals of dance, connection and how to swing it
hard.

Cost: 4,000 yen for one day (two classes included. totally three hours)
